Making an Easier Move – Organize It!

People often see moving as a hard and grueling task. But the truth is that, if you plan ahead of time and organize your tasks, moving can be a piece of cake.

• List down everything –

  The first step to doing an organized move is to have a moving inventory. It’s a list where you will write down everything that you will bring with you to your new home.

• Create a moving timeline –

  Determine your ideal date for the move and create tasks for specific dates (e.g. 1 month before, 2 weeks before, 1 week before…). If you already have a moving timeline, you can show this to your movers as well and guide them towards your goals. In addition to this, you should let the movers know of any specific timeframes. An example for this would be if you have to be out of your old home at a specific time of day or if you can only use the elevator at certain times.

• Get rid of everything you don’t need –

  Let go of excess baggage. Less items means less time for packing, less time for loading and the same goes for unloading and unpacking. Keeping useless items will not only slow down your move, it will make it more expensive too.
  

• Label everything! –

  Marking each box and labelling everything will definitely make the process easier. Make sure to label each box with a note on what kind of things are inside and to what room it should go to. If a box contains delicate or breakable objects, mark it as “fragile”.

• If possible, store boxes in one place –

  To make moving day easier and faster, try to gather all moving boxes into one room.

• Make Room Assignments / Floor Plan –

  Knowing where each item should go will definitely help the movers to work faster once they arrive at your new house. It will also help you from flipping out and losing your wits.

• Double-check everything on moving day –

  Check everything as they load it into the moving truck before you sign the inventory list (list of items shipped and delivered). Once they deliver it to your new home, make sure that you’re there so you can again double-check your things.
